Varsity expels two students for ‘engaging in gay practice’, four others for fighting on campus

Authorities of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, on Saturday, July 25, announced the expulsion of two students for their alleged involvement in gay practice and the rustication of four others for one academic session over acts of fighting on campus.

The measures were approved at the 31st meeting of the University Senate following consideration of recommendations from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

In letters addressed to the affected students and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Academics, Mr. Eli Usman Gbadafu, the institution stated that the disciplinary actions were taken in accordance with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.

The two expelled students were: Onumoko Hamza, Biology Education Department; and Abdulazeez Eneji, Mining Engineering Department.

Both were found guilty of gay practice after investigation by the disciplinary committee.

The four rusticated included: Favor Akowe of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of Biology; Zainab Omayoza and Sukura Bukola, both of Biochemistry Department.

They were sanctioned for involvement in a fight on campus.

The university warned that it would not hesitate to take decisive disciplinary action against any student found guilty of violating the rules and regulations of the University.

“Students are therefore advised to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and conduct themselves in accordance with the established rules and regulations of the university, the university stated.
