GOALPrime Organisation Nigeria, in partnership with Save the Children International (SCI) and the Katsina State Government, has enrolled 6,588 out-of-school children into informal learning centres in Musawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.
Speaking during the distribution of learning materials to the beneficiaries, the Country Director of GOALPrime, Prof. Christopher Chinedumuije, said the project is funded by the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative and began in October 2024. It also covers selected LGAs in Zamfara and Kaduna States.
He explained that the one-year programme is designed to transition children into formal schools after three months of informal education. The initiative includes psychosocial support, hygiene kits for pupils, and instructional materials for teachers.
“Learning materials will also go to about 7,000 pupils in selected formal schools. We identified 15,371 learners in formal schools and selected 12 schools for intervention. We’ve also set up 32 alternative learning centres, created child-friendly spaces for adolescents, and established community-based protection and disaster risk reduction committees,” Chinedumuije said.
He stressed that the project targets children affected by insecurity and flooding, ensuring they remain in education.
The Sarkin Musawa, Alhaji Sagir Abdullahi-Inde, represented by his secretary, Malam Safyanu Mani, commended the NGO for the intervention and pledged community support.
Education Secretary of Musawa LGA, Malam Yahaya Shu’aibu, urged parents to make good use of the materials, noting the initiative would help bridge the education gap and curb insecurity in the region.
