Gunmen on Wednesday, February 11, abducted a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honourable Usman Garba, popularly known as Zingo.
Honourable Garba, representing Kajuru constituency in the Assembly, was said to have been abducted while travelling from Zamfara State to Kaduna on Wednesday afternoon after attending an official engagement.
A source close to the lawmaker told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday night that the gunmen double crossed his vehicle when he was close to Kaduna metropolis, brought him out and bundled him into their vehicle, leaving his driver behind.
The driver was said to have reported the abduction at the nearest police station, but before the police operatives could get to the scene, the gunmen had left with the lawmaker.
The source said as of the time of this report, the gunmen had not made contact with the lawmaker’s family members or the state government regarding ransom payment.
The abduction of the lawmaker adds to growing concerns over insecurity along the highways in North-West region of the country. Many travellers have been abducted on various highways in such states as Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, among others.
On Tuesday morning, armed bandits attacked vehicles transporting traders from Kaura Namoda Local Government Area to Talata Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State, opening fire and injuring several people.
The wounded traders are currently being treated at Mafara Hospital in the state.
