A Professor of Engineering at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Borno State, Professor Abubakar Mohammed El-Jumma, is dead.
Family members announced his passing in a statement on Wednesday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
According to the family, the professor died around 2:45 a.m. after a brief illness said to have followed the hardship he suffered while in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists who abducted him recently.
He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites which took place on Wednesday afternoon.
A prayer for the repose of his soul is scheduled to hold on Thursday, February 12, at the Ngomari Old Airport Juma’at Mosque behind his residence in Maiduguri.
Professor El-Jumma was described as a distinguished scholar, mentor and a man of integrity whose contributions to education and community development impacted many students and colleagues.
The authorities of the University of Maiduguri said the distinguished professor will be sorely missed by the students as well as other members of the university community.
