Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Friday afternoon killed a man, abducted his wife while leaving their three-year-old son behind on a road in Niger State.
The gunmen were said to have carried out the act on Bangi-Mangoro road in Mariga Local Government Area of the state when the couple were travelling to Mangoro along with the child.
Sources close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Saturday morning that the gunmen flagged down the vehicle they were in, shot the father dead, abducted the mother and took her and others into the forest, leaving the child behind on the road.
It was gathered that after they left, some other travellers who saw the child on the road took him to a police station in Mangoro and the officers have urged family members to come to the station and take the child.
As of the time of this report, the gunmen are yet to establish any contact with the family of the abducted mother regarding ransom payment.
In another equally tragic development, gunmen on Friday night attacked Matseri community in Dosara ward, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing four people and looting homes.
The gunmen reportedly arrived at the community on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically into the air.
Those who were said to have resisted the attack were shot, leading to the death of four residents while an unspecified number of other residents were injured.
Apart from looting homes and carting away valuables, the marauders also set some of the houses ablaze while also leaving with some captives.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West and North-Central, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash attacks on residents, killing some and abducting others.
While the bandits and terrorists always attack unchallenged the various state governments and security agencies seem to be looking the other way.
