Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Saturday night attacked a community in Niger State and abducted “over 100 persons.”
The gunmen were said to have invaded Maburya community in Mariga Local Government Area of the state, shooting sporadically in the air and abducted the residents.
According to sources close to the community, the attackers went into the community late in the night looking for residents who had fled their homes for safety during an earlier attack.
Some of the residents who reportedly hid in the hills, along riverbanks and in other places were said to have been found by the bandits who later took them away.
The bandits were also said to have continued moving around the community, searching for more people to abduct.
Though the exact number number of abducted victims is stil unclear as of the time of this report, sources however said the number is “more than 100.”
The attack comes amid a growing wave of mass abductions across parts of Mariga, including Gulbin Boka, Mohoro and Shadadi.
Neither the state government nor security agencies had reacted to the latest abduction in the state which is currently generating massive reactions across the state.
