The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has advised hospitals to spend their resources wisely as well as seek alternative sources of funding to meet up with quality health service delivery.

Ehanire gave the advice while inspecting facilities at the National Hospital, Abuja over the weekend.

In his statement, additional resources from partnership with the private sector and others would help in service delivery adding that wise use of resources is essential as provision for needed materials might not be totally provided for by the government due to other demands.

The minister also cited that the COVID-19 pandemic was still a threat to the country as he urged the hospital to put laboratory staff on alert in case of increasing cases of COVID-19.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Jaf Momoh, said many doctors continued to leave the country for greener pastures elsewhere in large numbers.

He called for a process that ensured speedy replacement of exiting staff saying those at the oncology unit in the hospital were overworked.

As regards the progress of the hospital, he said the hospital’s IVF centre had delivered over 800 babies in the last 14 years and has deployed electronic medical record in the last two years with a billing component that brought 40 percent fund recovery.
