Heirs Insurance Group has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the wellbeing of retirees with the inaugural Heirs Insurance Retirees Meet-up, which brought together more than 1,000 retirees in Lagos, recently.
The event, according to a release from the insurer, provided participants with opportunities for learning, wellness, financial guidance, networking and recreation, while creating a platform to address issues affecting retirees after active employment.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of growing concerns about the financial security, healthcare and social wellbeing of retirees, who are often left out of broader conversations on economic development and inclusion.
At the gathering, participants benefited from expert-led sessions, complimentary health screenings and financial guidance designed to help them manage their resources and navigate retirement with greater confidence and dignity.
The programme also provided opportunities for retirees to interact with their peers, share experiences and build social networks in a supportive environment.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Heirs Insurance Rewards Programme for annuitants. The programme allows eligible annuitants to access discounts from selected health and lifestyle partners, extending the insurer’s relationship with retirees beyond the payment of monthly annuities.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Marketing Officer, Heirs Insurance Group, Ifesinachi Okpagu, said the company was deliberately creating platforms to recognise and support retirees.
She said, “Retirees have spent decades contributing to society, their families and the economy, yet they are sometimes forgotten in conversations about financial wellbeing, healthcare and quality of life.”
Okpagu added that the retirees’ meet-up and the company’s growing Retirees Club were designed to provide practical support and a sense of community.
“Through the Heirs Insurance Retirees Meetup and our growing Retirees Club, we are intentionally creating a platform that brings retirees together, celebrates them and gives them access to the information, support and community they need to thrive in retirement,” she said.
The Heirs Insurance Retirees Club, according to the company, is a growing community for retirees and pre-retirees. Members have access to practical retirement information, exclusive events, product and service updates, partner discounts and customer milestone benefits.
The company said the initiative was part of its broader commitment to financial inclusion and to ensuring that insurance services deliver value throughout customers’ lives.
Heirs Insurance Group is the insurance arm of Heirs Holdings, a pan-African investment company with investments across 24 countries and four continents.
The group comprises Heirs General Insurance Limited, Heirs Life Assurance Limited and Heirs Insurance Brokers, serving corporate and individual customers across Nigeria through an expanding retail network and digital channels.
The group said its focus on retirees was also consistent with its mission to democratise access to insurance and strengthen financial inclusion through innovative products, services and customer-focused initiatives.
The inaugural meet-up therefore marked a further step in positioning retirees not merely as beneficiaries of insurance services, but as an important community deserving sustained engagement, recognition and support beyond their working years.
