What began as an ordinary weekend in Abeokuta ended in unimaginable tragedy for the family of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) employee, Ms. Olakitan Oyesiku.
Friends and neighbours were left in shock after the respected media professional and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were found brutally murdered inside her residence, in a crime that has shaken residents of Ogun State.
Days after the gruesome killings, the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to the crime, revealing details of an investigation that relied on forensic science, intelligence gathering and technical tracking to unravel the case.
Addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was a former security guard employed by the deceased.
According to the commissioner, Philip allegedly confessed to planning the attack and recruiting two others – Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36 – to carry it out.

Police said the case came to light on June 21, 2026, after officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a distress report about suspicious activities at Ms. Oyesiku’s residence.
When detectives arrived, they found signs of forced entry. Inside the locked security house lay the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo. A further search of the main building led to another grim discovery – Ms. Oyesiku’s body lying in a pool of blood.
Investigators also discovered that her Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, prompting suspicion that the attack involved robbery.
The breakthrough came the following day when intelligence-led operations led detectives to the stolen vehicle in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta. Although the suspects had allegedly removed the number plates and ignition key, officers recovered the original registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, confirming ownership.
Another key development in the investigation was the recovery of a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene.
Ojajuni said forensic examination of the note generated crucial leads that enabled investigators to identify and trace the suspects.
The principal suspect was arrested on June 24 while working as a labourer at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Police later arrested the two other suspects during follow-up operations.
According to the police commissioner, Philip allegedly told investigators that he planned the attack because he harboured grievances against Ms. Oyesiku dating back to the period he worked in her employ.
Police said the suspect claimed the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”
Investigators believe the suspects first overpowered the security guard before forcing their way into the residence. Both victims were allegedly killed during the attack before the suspects fled with the deceased’s vehicle.
Searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of several items, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and other exhibits considered relevant to the investigation.
While disclosing the developments, the police commissioner stressed that the suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
He said investigators were continuing to assemble evidence to ensure diligent prosecution of everyone found culpable.
For the families of Ms. Oyesiku and Pelumi Adetayo, however, the arrests offer only the beginning of what is expected to be a long search for justice. Across Ogun State, the double murder has sparked grief and renewed calls for stronger security and swift prosecution of those responsible.
