Operatives of the Niger State Police Command are currently unraveling circumstances surrounding the killing of an 11-year-old girl by a security guard attached to a church and the dumping of the girl’s body inside a well in the church.
The incident occurred in the Suleja area of the state when the security guard, Godwin Dauda, aged 26 years, was said to have lured the girl into his room, defiled her, strangled her, leading to her death before dumping her body in the well.
It was gathered that on September 20 around 12:30 p.m., a report was received at ‘A’ Division, Suleja concerning the disappearance of the girl who reportedly left home on September 19 to attend a relative’s birthday celebration within the area but did not return home.
Later that evening, a pastor of an orthodox church, Suleja, (name of the church withheld) reported the discovery of a body inside a well within the church premises.
Police operatives promptly visited the scene and with the assistance of local government welfare officials, recovered the body and conveyed it to the General Hospital, Suleja for examination. The body was subsequently identified as that of the missing girl.
In the course of investigation, police operatives identified the security guard attached to the church as a person of interest following information suggesting his possible connection with the incident and his disappearance from the premises shortly thereafter.
The security guard was subsequently arrested on September 23 around 8:00 p.m in Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory, where he had reportedly fled.
During his interrogation, he was said to have disclosed that he lured the girl to his room on September 19 where he reportedly assaulted her sexually, strangling her by blocking her mouth and nose, resulting in her death.
He further added that he disposed of the body in the well in an attempt to conceal the incident before fleeing the area.
The man has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further investigation into the incident.
