Some fraudsters have devised another method to scam their victims by raising false bomb alarms and threatening to detonate the bombs unless their targets make money available.
The Edo State Police Command said on Monday, October 27, that it has uncovered the activities of some fraudsters who engage in this in order to extort their targets.
The modus operandi of the fraudsters is to threaten individuals, business owners as well as corporate organisations on phones, with claims that explosive devices, including bombs, have been planted within their premises.
They will thereafter threaten to detonate the explosive devices if they do not pay certain amount within a stipulated period of time.
This, the command said, had sent panic and apprehension in the minds of some residents while some others had taken the initiative to report the threats at the command headquarters.
The command therefore urged resident not to panic or succumb to any financial demands whenever they receive such calls from the unscrupulous people, urging then to report the threats immediately after receiving them.
Efforts are also being intensified to connect with various telecoms service providers and other security agencies to track and apprehend those making such calls.
Residents of the state have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any calls received regarding threats of bombs to the nearest police station while the Explosives Ordnance Disposal of the command has been put on alert to promptly respond to all the reported threats.
