The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday afternoon gave an update on the two-storey building that collapsed at 49, Coates Street, by Cemetery, off Oyingbo in Lagos State early on Monday.
NEMA gave the update in a statement, saying as at noon on Monday, 13 persons have been rescued and rushed to hospitals for urgent medical attention while rescue operations are still ongoing at the site to comb the rubble for any other persons who may be trapped beneath the debris.
NEMA said it deployed its rescue team to the scene from the Lagos Operations Office to the site for prompt response and collaborated with other agencies at the scene.
NEMA wrote: “So far, 13 persons have been rescued from the rubble and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Metta, for medical attention. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to comb the rubble for any other persons who may be trapped beneath the debris.
“The agency is working in close coordination with other emergency responders and stakeholders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Nigeria Police, the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, to ensure an effective and coordinated rescue effort.”
NEMA urged residents of the area to cooperate with various agencies carrying out rescue operations and allow them to do their work without any form of molestation.
