Some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted passengers who were travelling from Lagos to Abuja inside a Toyota Hiace bus in Kogi State.
This was just as the state police command confirmed the development, saying one of the travellers had been rescued while seven suspects were arrested in connection with the abduction.
According to reports, the abduction occurred on April 13 around 8:30 a.m. along the Ayere-Kabba Road, inward Kabba Local Government Area of the state.
A preliminary investigation by the state police command indicated that the Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company travelling from Lagos to Abuja was attacked by the hoodlums.
Following a prompt and coordinated response by security operatives, one of the travellers was rescued, while the vehicle was recovered and taken to the police station for further necessary action.
“Efforts have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining abducted passengers, with sustained bush-combing and search-and-rescue operations currently ongoing,” the command said in a statement on Friday, April 17.
The operations were being carried out by joint operatives of the police, the military, and other security agencies, as the command added that so far, seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently assisting in its investigations.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), supported by other tactical teams, remains actively engaged in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the swift apprehension of perpetrators. These operations are being vigorously pursued, and further developments will be communicated in due course,” the command added.
