A woman who was abducted by some men said to be herdsmen while going to her farm at a village in Taraba State has been rescued by soldiers after the herdsmen abandoned her and fled on sighting the soldiers.
The Nigerian Army announced the rescue operation in a statement on Sunday, December 14, saying Troops of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) rescued the woman, Mrs Iloda Ayinba, during an operation conducted on Saturday, December 13, at Torikegha Village in the Chanchanji Ward of Takum Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the operation followed credible intelligence received by troops deployed at Kufai Amadu regarding the abduction of a woman within the area. Acting promptly on the information, troops immediately mobilised and advanced to the affected community.
According to the army, upon arrival, further investigation revealed that the woman, a resident of Torikegha Village, was abducted while on her way to her farm by the herdsmen who were relocating from the general area.
The Nigerian Army wrote: “Troops swiftly and tactically traced the criminals’ withdrawal routes, conducting an aggressive search and rescue operation across the surrounding terrain, extending up to the power line corridor between Benue and Taraba states. Overwhelmed by the sustained pressure from the advancing troops, the kidnappers abandoned the victim in the bush and fled.”
The woman was subsequently rescued unharmed and handed over to the village heads, amidst appreciation from members of the community for the timely intervention of the soldiers.
