Two men have been arrested by men of the Kwara State Police Command after they organised a mob who killed the Chief Imam of their village after the death of their elder brother who was on admission in a hospital.
The command announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday afternoon, saying the two men allegedly committed the act in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
However, there was no information about the connection between the killing of the Chief Imam and the death of the elder brother.
According to reports, on November 4, around 9:30 p.m., one Ibrahim Gana, a resident of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi, who had been ill and on admission, died in an undisclosed hospital.
However, following his death, his brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, were said to have accused the Chief Imam of the village, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother’s death.
They were said to have mobilised several other individuals who attacked the Chief Imam with offensive weapons in his house, leading to the death of the cleric.
Following the death of the man, a distress call was received by the command and policemen went to the scene, arrested the two brothers and four other members of the mob.
Those arrested were said to have given more useful information to the operatives while efforts are on to arrest others in connection with the crime.
