The Nigerian Army on Sunday, October 12, gave details of how a logistic vehicle used to convey hard drugs and motorcycle spare parts from Lagos to bandits in Zamfara State was intercepted by soldiers.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this on its X handle on Sunday evening, saying the vehicle was intercepted by troops of 8 Division Garrison and local vigilantes following intelligence reports gathered about the movement of the items.
Zamfara State has been in the mews recently over the activities of bandits who usually abduct their victims and demand for ransom. In some cases, some of the victims abducted are killed if ransom is not paid on time.
According to the Nigerian Army however, the vehicle was stopped as it arrived Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, and when it was searched, the hard drugs as well as motorcycle spare parts which were being conveyed to the bandits were found inside.
The Army disclosed that the suspects arrested in connection with the movement of the vehicle were arrested and after investigation, they were handed over to the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.
In other raids carried out by the Army in other states, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE conducted successful raids in Nasarawa and Benue states, arresting several kidnapping suspects, rescuing victims and recovering arms, charms and other exhibits.
Likewise, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE stationed in Plateau State foiled a cattle rustling attempt in Barkin Ladi and arrested five drug peddlers in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
