A man who was arrested over the death of his wife has told men of the Imo State Police Command that the woman collapsed and died during a physical altercation between them.
The state police command announced the development in a statement on Sunday night, as it added that the husband, Vitalis Nwoko, aged 58 years, was arrested by the operatives attached to the Ahiazu Mbaise Divisional Headquarters of the command.
It was gathered that his arrest followed a report lodged at the division by the wife’s sister, who alleged that the man violently assaulted his wife, simply known as Uloma, during a domestic dispute.
Following the report, the police operatives visited the home located at Umuagba, Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of the state where the man was arrested.
The command said during preliminary investigation, the husband told the operatives that a misunderstanding between him and his wife on December 11 escalated into a physical altercation during which his wife collapsed. She was eventually rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
He was said to have given more useful information to the operatives while the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation. He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
