Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has commended a contingent of Nigerian police officers serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), calling them “exemplary ambassadors” of the Nigeria Police Force.
The praise follows a commendation letter from the AUSSOM Police Commissioner, dated June 12, 2025, which lauded the officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) for their professionalism, intelligence, and discipline during their deployment from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025.
Initially deployed as Formed Police Unit personnel, the officers were later redeployed into administrative and Command Element roles (NFPU-12) at AUSSOM Headquarters in Mogadishu. Despite minimal induction for their new duties, they adapted swiftly and performed critical administrative and operational functions during a pivotal security transition in Somalia.
Among those recognized were CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard. Their contributions were credited with maintaining mission stability and enhancing operational efficiency.
In a statement by Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP expressed pride in the officers’ performance and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to international peacekeeping.
“With courage, adaptability, and dedication, our officers continue to perform with excellence on the world stage,” he said.
The IGP urged the officers to uphold the Force’s values as they continue their duties in Somalia.
