The Nigerian Immigration Service on Friday, October 24, announced the dismissal of eight of its officers accused of serious misconduct while it also compulsorily retired five officers and demoted eight others for gross misconduct.
The Immigration Service announced the development in a statement posted on its X handle, saying they were punished following recommendations by the Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board.
It was gathered that the officers and others that were reprimanded were found to have engaged in unethical practices and violation of service regulations.
The statement added that apart from those sanctioned above, five officers were issued with letters of warning while the appeals of two officers previously dismissed were rejected. One dismissed officer was however reinstated following the success of his appeal against his dismissal.
The Service added that two junior officers, Aliyu Usman and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, have been dismissed from the organisation after they were found to have been involved in stealing, illegal possession of firearms and kidnapping following investigation into their activities.
The Nigerian Immigration Service therefore disclosed that it is committed to maintaining highest ethical standards for its personnel and anyone found to have engaged in unwholesome practices will be punished.
