The authorities of the University of Lagos have told those movie producers, actors, skit makers and others that it is illegal to shoot movies and skits inside the campus or students hostels without getting approval from the institution.
The university gave the order following rampant complaints, especially from students and staff, who said movie producers and skit makers always come to the institution to shoot movies and make skits, sometimes embarrassing them.
As a result of the complaint, the university said it has become imperative to caution those who come to the campus to shoot movies and make skits that it is inappropriate to do so without getting approval from the school authorities.
According to a statement by the Head of Communication Unit of the institution, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university has established procedures guiding the use of its premises and environment for any form of recording or content production.
The statement reads: “The attention of the University of Lagos management has been drawn to the increasing use of the university premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos and cinematographic activities without appropriate authorisation.
“The university has established procedures guiding the use of its premises and environment for any form of recording or content production. These procedures are designed to ensure safety, decorum, and integrity of our academic and residential spaces, as well as protect the image and reputation of the university.
“Accordingly, all individuals or groups: students, staff, or external collaborators, intending to shoot any content on campus are required to obtain prior approval from the university. Requests for approval should be sent to the Communication Unit, 7th Floor, Senate House, UNILAG, Akoka.
“The university encourages creativity and responsible expression; however, such activities must align with established institutional guidelines. Members of the university community and general public are therefore advised to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.”
