With the refusal of the Federal government to pay the salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that are not enrolled in the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), the union has declared a two-week warning strike.

The National President of the union, Biodun Ogunyemi made the declaration after ASUU National Executive Council meeting in Enugu.

“NEC resolved to embark on two weeks warning strike action with effect from Monday 9th March 2020, to compel the Government to implement the agreement and resolution,” Ogunyemi said.

He said the strike action was to compel the government to implement the agreement and resolution of Memorandum of Action it had with the union from 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019.

Recalled that the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, had said last week that the Federal Government will not pay the February salary of members of the union who are not enrolled in the IPPIS.
