A lady who was shot in the face five times by soldiers from the English-speaking part of Cameroon eight years ago has written a heartfelt message regarding the harrowing experience she went through.
The woman, known as Bah Median Ekueh, a citizen of the country, wrote the message on her X handle on Friday, June 12, to mark her birthday.
According to information regarding the incident, Median, a student from Bamenda, Cameroon, was shot in the face five times when soldiers raided her family home and the shots practically spilt her face into two.
Doctors battled to save her and she went through various harrowing surgeries to reconstruct her face.
However, writing about what she went through, she said eight years ago in 2018, she was shot about five times in the face during the crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, adding that the injuries were devastating, and there were moments when her future seemed uncertain.
She wrote: “Eight years ago, my life changed forever. I was shot several times in the face during the crisis in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon. The injuries were devastating, and there were moments when my future seemed uncertain.
“My face was severely damaged, my dreams were shaken, and my journey became one of unimaginable pain and countless challenges.
“Yet, through the infinite mercy of God, I survived.
“Every scar I carry is a testament not to my suffering, but to my survival. Every breath I take is proof that adversity does not have the final word. What was meant to destroy me became the very reason I discovered my strength.
“To everyone following my journey, I want you to remember this: Your circumstances do not define your destiny.
“Your scars do not diminish your worth. Your setbacks do not determine your future.
“There will be seasons when life tests your endurance, challenges your faith, and pushes you beyond what you thought you could bear. But within every human being lies a reservoir of strength greater than any obstacle.
“I stand before you today not as a victim, but as a survivor. Not as a symbol of tragedy, but as living evidence that courage can rise from pain, beauty can emerge from brokenness, and hope can flourish even in the midst of despair.
“If my story teaches anything, let it be this: Never surrender to hopelessness. Never underestimate the power of faith. Never allow your wounds to silence your purpose.
“I am still here. I am still standing. I am still dreaming. And by God’s grace, my best chapters are yet to be written.
“Thank you for walking this journey with me. Your love, prayers, and support mean more than words can ever express.
“I am Median. I survived. I endured. I overcame. And I will continue to rise. Happy Birthday to me.”
