A woman has incurred the wrath of the authorities in Imo State after she inflicted injuries on her housemaid whom she accused of lying.
She was thereafter made to write a letter of apology over the incident, promising never to harm her again.
The Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Nkechinyere Ugwu, disclosed this on Thursday while expressing concern over cases of parents and guardians inflicting injuries on their housemaids which she said have become very rampant.
She therefore posted a letter of undertaking written by a woman who was apparently apprehended by officials of the ministry in connection with the cases of abuse of housemaids.
The woman, whose name is Ochomma Chisom, resident of 117, Amakohia Layout, Owerri, the state capital, admitted in the letter that she abused her housemaid due to what she described as “her continuous lies.”
She added that she was so provoked that she gave her some marks on her body and a wound on the side of her head, saying that her action was wrong and could instil fears in the housemaid while carrying out her activities.
In her “letter of undertaking,” she said she loves her housemaid and promised that she would never lay her hands on her or inflict any injury on her again. She added that she would learn to correct her with love.
