The Chairperson of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Dayo Ekong, has said the political influence of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is dwindling. She urged him to pause and reflect on his recent decisions.
Ekong, in a statement shared on her official X handle on Tuesday, noted that Obi’s soaring profile during the 2023 elections was not solely due to his personality, but also the strength of party structures, grassroots mobilisation, and the widespread public yearning for change.
According to her, the “grace” that propelled Obi in 2023 is gradually fading as a result of what she described as his divisive choices and inconsistent political moves.
“In 2023, Nigerians rallied behind him because he represented a fresh alternative. But today, his actions are beginning to erode the foundation of that support,” Ekong wrote.
She pointed to the recent Edo State governorship election as an example, noting Obi’s endorsement of Olumide Akpata, the LP candidate, against the preference of some party leaders.
