The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, identified as Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of the state.
The incident occurred on September 21, 2025, around 11:50 p.m., when the child’s mother reported to Elemoro Police Division that her guard had fled with her son and a mobile phone. According to the police, Kini later contacted the boy’s father using the stolen phone and demanded a ransom of ₦5 million for the child’s release.
Police operatives immediately launched a manhunt, questioning Aruna Dauda, who had stood as guarantor for the suspect’s employment. Sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering forced Kini to release the child, though he initially remained at large.
Two days later, on September 23, operatives of the police Tactical Squad, codenamed Hyena, tracked and arrested Kini at his hideout in the Elemoro area. The police confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime and is currently in custody pending prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the abduction, describing it as “a grave crime against an innocent child.” He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes in Lagos and urged parents to remain vigilant.
He further appealed to residents to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08063299264, 09053872208, and 08087332678.
