Some terrorists suspected to be members of the dreaded Lakurawa group on Wednesday launched a series of attacks on various communities at a local government in Kebbi State, murdering 34 persons.
The terrorists launched the attacks on at least eight communities in the Arewa Local Government Area of the state.
The attacks, which occurred from morning through the afternoon, targeted several villages, leaving families devastated and forcing residents to flee for safety.
A source in the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday afternoon that the attackers moved around various settlements, opening fire on the residents in what has become one of the deadliest single-day incidents recorded in the area in recent months.
According to the source, the hardest-hit community was Mamunu, where 16 persons were killed. Awashaka recorded five youths killed, while Masama lost three residents. Two people each were killed in Gorin Dena, Kamzo, Dan Mai Rago, Tungar Bature, and Tungar Tsoho communities.
By nightfall after the terrorists had left, residents across the various who still remained were gripped with fear amid concerns of further attacks.
Some residents were said to have expressed frustration over what they described as inadequate response after various distress calls they made were allegedly not responded to and they are urging the Kebbi State government and local government area leadership to implement stronger security measures to prevent further loss of life.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities in the states, killing some and abducting others.
