Officials of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) on Monday apprehended a 27-year-old man, Adamu Ismail, for vandalising public infrastructure at Peace Park, Ojota.
Ismail was caught in the act of stealing the wire mesh used to fence the facility. He was immediately taken into custody by LASPARK officers before being handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (@LAGESCOfficial) for further processing.
In a statement issued by the agency, LASPARK warned that acts of vandalism against public facilities would not be tolerated, stressing that such infrastructure exists for the collective benefit of residents.
“These facilities belong to all of us, and protecting them is a shared responsibility. We will continue to enforce without compromise to safeguard public assets across Lagos,” the agency noted.
The suspect is expected to face prosecution in line with existing laws on the protection of public property.
The Lagos State Government has in recent months stepped up enforcement measures to curb vandalism and misuse of public spaces, urging residents to take ownership of shared infrastructure and report suspicious activities to authorities.
