Police authorities in Libya have confirmed the arrest of five undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality during routine security checks in the Bin Jawad area of Sirte on Wednesday, September 10.
According to officials, the individuals were intercepted while traveling without valid documentation and have since been handed over to the competent authorities for legal action.
The arrests highlight the ongoing crackdown by Libyan security forces on irregular migration routes through the North African country, which remains a key transit point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean into Europe.
Human rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about the treatment of undocumented migrants in Libya, citing overcrowded detention centres and limited access to legal support. Despite this, Libyan authorities continue to intensify security operations along key highways and coastal areas.
The Impact Nigeria Newspaper had earlier reported the arrest of four undocumented Nigerian migrants by Garagara Police Department in Ubari during a raid on a residence reportedly being used for drug consumption and prostitution.
