A man arrested with a double-barrelled pistol aa well as three live and expended cartridges by men of the Delta State Police Command has told the officers that he is a member of a cult group he described as ‘Juris Confraternity.’
The man, whose name was given as Peter Onajite, aged 32 years, was arrested by the operatives of the Delta Shield while on a surveillance patrol last Saturday at Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
His arrest followed intelligence reports received by the operatives about his nefarious activities and when a search was carried out on his hideout, the locally-fabricated double-barrelled pistol, two live and one expended cartridges as well as sachets of Tramadol were said to have been recovered from him.
He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, for more investigation and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
In another developmment, on April 12, around 1:00 p.m., following a report of a suspected initiation involving members of a cult group known as Aiye, operatives attached to Ibusa Police station swiftly mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, including a lady, while a search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition.
Other items recovered were three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters.
“The suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the other fleeing members of the group, the command said in a statement posted on Monday night.
