It was the timely response of policemen that saved a man from being lynched to death at a community in Enugu State after he reportedly used a cutlass to behead his mother.

The man, Onyebuchi Anikwe, aged 40 years, was said to have committed the gruesome act Nkporogwu Ukehe Community in the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state on May 15 around 3:30 p.m.

He was said to have descended on his 60-year-old mother, Felicia Anikwe, over an undisclosed issue, using a cutlass to cut her head off.

After carrying out the act, a mob in the community apprehended him, beat him blue black and he was about to be lynched to death when a distress call was made to men of the Igbo-Etiti Divisional Headquarters of the command who raced to the scene.

The police officers eventually rescued him from the mob, arrested him and took him to the station while the body and severed head of the mother were recovered and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The man is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where a full-scale investigation into the incident has commenced.

In another equally shocking incident, operatives of the command’s Distress Response Squad responded to a distress call alleging that one Joshua Eze also used a cutlass to sever the heads of his sister, Nwabuche Eze and her daughter, Favour Eze.

The incident occurred at Agu-Ekwegbe community in the same Igbo-Etiti LG.

The man was also rescued from a mob in a critical condition and taken to the hospital, where he later died from the injuries he sustained during the mob attack.

Preliminary investigations by the operatives of the command further revealed that after murdering the victims, he buried their remains in a shallow grave alongside a white cock, suggesting possible ritual intentions.
