A man who was on his way to exchange 56 pieces of fake 100 US dollars notes for genuine naira notes has been arrested by the men of the Jigawa State Police Command, it was gathered on Wednesday, October 15.
The state police command announced the arrest on its Facebook page on Wednesday night, saying the man, Lawan Isa, aged 33 years, was arrested by police operatives attached to the Gidan Lage outstation of the Ringim Divisional Headquarters.
His arrest followed intelligence reports gathered by the operatives which indicated that he was in possession of the fake dollars and was planning to take them to foreign exchange dealers in order to change them to naira.
According to the command, when he was intercepted and a search was conducted, the fake notes as well as another one dollar note were found with him. Also, he was found with four Android phones and other items.
He was said to have given the police operatives information that will aid their investigation while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.
