Man Utd confirm Phelan as assistant manager
Manchester United has appointed former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, Mike Phelan as Assistant Manager on a three year contract.
Phelan, a former Red Devils midfielder returned to the club in December when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named caretaker manager. He was assistant to Sir Ferguson for five years from 2008, helping the club to win three Premier League titles.
“Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989 and I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role,” Phelan told the club’s official website.
He will now help Solskjaer, who was appointed as United’s permanent manager at the end of March, prepare for the club’s final match of the season against Cardiff City on Sunday.
“Mike is a great person to have around and has been invaluable to me since we returned in December,” Solskjaer added. “He brings a wealth of experience to this role with a long-established connection to the club.”
