The Confederation of African Football (CAN) Disciplinary Board has imposed sanctions on national teams of Senegal and Morocco as well as certain players and officials for the incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final, which violated the CAF Disciplinary Code.
CAF announced the sanctions in a statement posted on its website on Wednesday night.
On the Senegalese national team, the board decided to suspend Pape Bouna Thiaw, the Head Coach, for five official CAF matches and was also fined $100,000.
The board also suspended the Senegalese player, Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye, for two official CAF matches, for his unsporting behaviour towards the referee.
Senegalese football governing body, Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), was also fined $300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters and another $300,000 for the conduct of its players and technical staff in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity.
It also fined the country’s football body $15,000 for the misconduct of its national team, due to five of its players having received cautions.
Regarding Morocco, the board decided to suspend the national team player, Achraf Hakimi for two official CAF matches, with one the suspension to last for one year for his unsporting behaviour.
It also suspended another player, Ismaël Saibari for three official CAF matches and was equally fined $100,000.
The country’s football body, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), was fined $200,000, for the inappropriate behaviour of the stadium’s ball boys during the final match and another $100,000 for the improper conduct of their national team players and technical staff, who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work.
CAF also fined the country’s football body $15,000 for the use of lasers by its supporters during the match.
