A man who was said to be a member of a kidnapping gang and who used to keep weapons used by kidnappers after their operations has been arrested by men of the Anambra State Police Command.
The command announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday, December 4, saying the man, Kalu Okafor, aged 43 years, was arrested by the operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad of the command.
It was gathered that his arrest followed a confessional statement made by a member of his gang, Chukwudi Nwakpa, who was earlier arrested and who gave details of how they used to drop the arms and ammunition with Okafor after carrying out kidnapping operations.
After his arrest, Okafor was said to have told the operatives that he not only kept the weapons for the kidnappers, he also used to get returns from the proceeds of the ransoms collected by the kidnapping gang.
Also at the point of his arrest, items reportedly recovered from him included one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, 88 bullets, face masks, among others.
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation into his nefarious activities.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups, including armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, among others, terrorising residents of some areas in the state. Some of those arrested had been charged to courts.
