The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, April 1, said a man who spread false information about the agency and its operatives has been arrested.
It added that investigation after his arrest indicated that he was also involved in romance scam apart from spreading falsehood about the agency.
The anti graft agency disclosed these in a statement on Wednesday, saying the man, Udoma David Ekeh, described as a ‘Tiktoker,’ had been involved in spreading the false information since 2025.
It was gathered that Udeh, in December 2025, alerted the public on the TikTok platform that some operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the commission were kidnapped by bandits while on an assignment in a location in Kwara State.
He was also reported to have insinuated that the bandits demanded huge amount of money as ransom from the EFCC before releasing the purported officers.
“All his claims are fabricated, together with the use of his TikTok account to incite and misinform the public about the commission’s relentless efforts in tackling the menace of internet fraud,” the commission said.
During his interrogation after his arrest, the agency said preliminary investigations showed that he was involved in romance scam by using his Facebook account to impersonate a foreigner with the name Garg Carta.
He was said to have given more useful information about his nefarious activities and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
