It was the end of the road for a motorcycle thief in Akwa Ibom State as he was caught by a mob after stealing a bike, beaten blue black before he was burnt to death.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 9, around 7:30 a.m. at Ikpe Ikot Akpan Village, along the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Road, following his attempt to steal the motorcycle belonging to a resident, whose name was given as Idoroenyin Udo.
It was gathered that as he attempted to snatch the motorcycle, the owner resisted and raised an alarm, prompting some persons in the area to pursue and apprehend him.
However, instead of handing him over to the police for proper investigation, the mob took the law into their own hands, beat him up and subsequently set him ablaze, resulting in his death.
Upon receiving a distress report on the incident, police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and investigation commenced.
“The command has intensified efforts to identify, track down and arrest all persons involved in the mob action. Anyone found culpable will be brought to justice in accordance with the law,” the command said in a statement.
The photographs of the burnt remains of the motorcycle thief, which the command posted alongside the statement, are too gory to be posted in this report.
