A Nigerian who has been living in the United States for over 40 years has disclosed that due to the visits he had embarked on in a few years, Nigeria is not child friendly neither is it elderly friendly, saying it’s a tough place to live in.
The man, Ikhide Ikheloa, disclosed this on his verified X handle while responding to the call by President Bola Tinubu for Nigerians in diaspora to return home and invest in the country.
According to Ikheloa, the country is not human friendly, even to the rich citizens, adding that many of them live a sequestered life akin to that of timid paupers.
He added that he has a Ghanaian neighbour in the United States who is always eager to travel to his country and who also has properties there, adding that the man said he plans to retire to Ghana when he gets old.
He wrote: “I am definitely not coming back home to stay. I have lived in the US for over four decades. I visit home periodically, for about two weeks at a time. I am retired now, and with no purpose in mind, I went to Nigeria on July 18 and just returned September 23 after two months.
“The extended stay in which I traveled extensively to Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Badagry, Edo State, among others, merely convinced me that it would be foolish for me to return home and spend the winter of my life there.
“Nigeria is not child-friendly, it’s not elderly-friendly, it’s not human friendly. It’s a tough place to live in, even the wealthy live sequestered like timid paupers.

“I met a Ghanaian business owner in my neighbourhood who shared that he has a property in Accra and he can’t wait to go back home and retire. He said Accra is clean and safe, one doesn’t have to worry about crime, among others. The only problem is that Ghana is expensive. Well, these things cost money.”
