The story of Bernardo Lopes, the 11-year-old Brazil’s Botafogo’s newest signing, is an inspiring tale of strength, courage and overcoming adversity.
According to Transfer News Live on its X handle on Friday, he almost lost his life at the age of just one, but today he has realized his dream of wearing the black and white jersey of the club from Rio de Janeiro.
Born in the Santa Isabel neighborhood of Sao Gonçalo, Bernardo experienced a tragedy at the age of one, when he accidentally spilled boiling water from a kettle on his body.
The severe burns led to a seven-month stay in the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries and transplants. Even doctors doubted he would make it, but against all odds, he survived and resumed his life.
As a child, his greatest passion was football. He played on the streets and in local tournaments, where he was mostly supported by his uncle, Rodrigo, who ran a social project for children in need.
It was the uncle who convinced Bernardo’s father to enroll him in the CT Menino de Ouro football school. where the boy began to stand out.
His big moment came at a tournament held at the Nilton Santos Stadium. the home of Botafogo. His performance impressed observers and paved the way for selection into the club’s academy. In the decisive trials, Lopes excelled and earned his place.
Recently, the 11-year-old played his first minutes in the Botafogo jersey, becoming an extraordinary example of strength of character and belief that dreams can come true, despite obstacles.
His extraordinary talent impressed Botafogo so much that they decided to sign him.
If his development continues, Lopes could eventually break into Botafogo’s first team, coached by Davide Ancelotti, son and assistant of Brazil head coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
