A Nigerian living in India for some years, Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, has been arrested by policemen in the country after he was found to be dealing in hard drugs and living in one of the cities after his passport and visa had expired.
According to reports on Friday, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) of the police in the city arrested the Nigerian, a 43-year-old from Imo State, following credible information received about his criminal activities in the country.
He was said to have initially arrived in Mumbai in 2012 on a business visa and later moved between Bengaluru and Hyderabad, engaging in drug-peddling activities for easy money.
“Acting on intelligence, H-NEW detained him within the limits of Asif Nagar Police Station. Some drugs were seized at the time of apprehension and investigations confirmed his illegal stay and involvement in narcotic-related activities,” the Hyderabad City Police said in the statement posted on its X handle on Friday.
The police added that in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the man’s deportation to Nigeria will be initiated after the conclusion of the investigation, “thereby preventing further illegal activities detrimental to national security.”
