A Nigerian citizen living in the United Kingdom, Saburi Olayinka Adeniji, has been pronounced brain dead at a hospital in London after he suffered a serious brain injury.
Doctors ar the Queen’s Hospital in London announced the sad development after he was admitted to the Intensive Care department of the hospital.
In medicine, brain death is the irreversible, complete, and permanent loss of all brain and brainstem functions, legally and medically defining the person as dead, even if a ventilator keeps the heart beating.
It’s caused by severe injury or illness (like stroke, trauma, or lack of oxygen) that stops blood flow and function, leading to the inability to breathe, feel, or regain consciousness.
An executive member of the Nigerians in UK organisation, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, announced the condition of the man on his verified X handle on Thursday evening, saying he suffered a brain stem injury.
He added that due to the severity of his condition, doctors have pronounced him brain dead.
According to him, Saburi’s wife and only daughter are in Nigeria and the hospital has issued an official letter requesting urgent compassionate consideration to allow the wife to travel to the UK as soon as possible, so she can be with her husband and say her final goodbye.
Saburi, according to his friends who commented on the post, is a gentle and responsible young man who has been living in the kingdom for a few years before he developed the ailment.
