The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to blacklist employers who fail to provide basic welfare support, including accommodation and transportation, for corps members posted to their organisations.
The Director-General of the scheme, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during an interaction with corps members in Kogi State as part of his working visit to the state.
In a statement shared on the NYSC’s official social media platforms on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Nafiu warned that employers who neglect their responsibilities towards corps members risk losing access to the services of the scheme.
“Any employer who did not provide accommodation and transportation for Corps Members would be blacklisted from enjoying Corps services,” he said.
The NYSC boss urged organisations benefiting from the deployment of corps members to prioritise their welfare, noting that improved working conditions would boost their productivity and overall well-being throughout the service year.
Nafiu assured corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding their security and welfare, while appealing to state governments, local authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen their support for the scheme.
“The Federal Government is resolutely committed to your security and welfare,” he said, adding that security remained a collective responsibility.
He encouraged corps members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies in their host communities.
The Director-General also urged corps members to uphold discipline, dedication and professionalism, warning them against actions that could damage the reputation of the NYSC.
On entrepreneurship, Nafiu advised corps members to take the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously, describing it as a pathway towards self-reliance.
“Be proactive, identify business opportunities within your host communities, and start making some money for yourselves even now,” he advised.
Acknowledging the economic difficulties facing many young Nigerians, he encouraged corps members to develop strong financial habits by saving and managing their resources wisely.
“Take your service year as a training ground for future financial management by managing your finances wisely,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the NYSC Coordinator in Kogi State, Mrs Tochi Chika Chris-Moneke, commended the Director-General for the visit, describing it as evidence of his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members and staff.
Chris-Moneke also announced that the state secretariat was preparing to organise a corps employers’ workshop and a Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers programme in the coming weeks.
