One person has been confirmed dead while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries when some youths engaged in a violent clash during a wedding ceremony at a community in Bauchi State.

The state police command, which confirmed the development on Tuesday, June 30, added that nine persons were arrested and are currently in custody in connection with the clash.

It was gathered that the incident occurred during the wedding ceremony in Gara Village, Kurmi Ward, Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area of the year.

The command said a report was received at Burra Divisional Police Headquarters on Monday that on Friday, June 26, one Bilya Yahaya, a 25-years-old man from Gara Village did his wedding ceremony.

However, during the ceremony, some youths had a misunderstanding which subsequently resulted in a confrontation and violent attack, causing the disruption of the event.

As a result of the attack, four persons sustained varying degrees of injuries and they were rushed to a private clinic in Kada for medical attention.

However, while three of the youths were treated and discharged, the fourth person, whose name was given as Abubakar Usamatu, aged 19 years, was referred to General Hospital, Ningi, where he was certified dead on arrival.

Acting on the report of the clash, detectives from Burra Division swung into action, traced and apprehended nine persons in connection with the incident.

“Meanwhile, the suspects are currently assisting the police investigation and will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” the command said in a statement on Tuesday.
