A man who took away a 14-year-old teenager from his father at a village in Akwa Ibom State with a promise to take him to the city for a better life has abandoned the child at a motor park in Rivers State and disappeared.

The teenager, who identified himself as Pius Prosper, told men of the Rivers State Police Command after he was handed over to them that he is from Akwa Ibom State, where he resides with his parents.

According to him, he is a pupil of Ikot-Okoro Primary School, adding that a man approached his father in their village and requested to take him to the city.

However, upon arriving at Waterline Park in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, the man, whose name he said he could not remember, abandoned him and disappeared, leaving the child stranded.

It was while he was wandering inside the park that transport union officials saw him and after asking him questions about his mission there, they took him to the police station.

The state police command, in a statement on Tuesday, June 30, regarding the matter, is therefore appealing to members of the public who may know the child, his parents, relatives, or have any information that could assist in reuniting him with his family to promptly report to the nearest police station either in Akwa Ibom State or Rivers State or contact the Rivers State Police Command.
