A man who raised a false alarm saying some bandits and kidnappers have abducted school children at some communities in Edo State has landed in the net of the state police command.
The man, Ernest Ugbomoiko, aged 42 years, of Afuze community, was discovered to be the person responsible for originating and circulating the false information which said that bandits and kidnappers had abducted school children in Afuze, Ehor, Otuo, Agbede and Igueben.
The state police command said in a statement on Thursday, June 18, that following its investigations, the alarm was found to be false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
“There was no incident of school children being kidnapped in the mentioned areas or any other part of Edo State,” the command said.
The man was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and he will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
“Parents, guardians, school administrators and students are therefore advised to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security measures remain in place to guarantee their safety,” it added.
