Authorities of the Polaris Bank Plc on Thursday, June 18, said the report of 34 persons dying during the fire incident at its Broad Street branch was pure falsehood, urging people to disregard it.
Some bloggers who reported the fire incident said between 34 and 37 persons, mostly staff members of the bank, died while many others were injured.
However, reacting to the report, Polaris Bank said there was no iota of truth in such reports from the bloggers.
It said the fire occurred at the third-floor car park and it emanated from the vehicle of one of its customers.
The bank added that the fire was swiftly contained following the activation of its emergency response team as well as the intervention of firefighters, saying there were no casualties or fatalities.
“Reports claiming that over 34 persons were feared dead are false and misleading. Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” the bank said in the statement.
“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platform and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” it added.
