South African national team, the Bafana Bafana, on Thursday, June 18, kept their hope of qualifying for the next round of things year’s World Cup alive as they drew 1-1 with Czechia in the second round of the Group A match.
South Africa lost their first match during the opening of the competition last Thursday, losing 0-1 to Mexico and with their second match against Czechia, the country now have one point in Group A.
Czechia led for nearly the entire match before South Africa equalised from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute of the match.
Michal Sadilek fired the Czechs into the lead in the sixth minute, tied for the earliest goal seen in this tournament so far. They led all the way until the 83rd minute when Teboho Mokoena equalised from the penalty spot after Pavel Sulc was called for handball.
This leaves the Czechs and the South Africans with just one point from two matches, as the Czechs lost their opening match to South Korea 1-2.
The South Africans will square up against South Koreans in the last group match on Thursday, June 25 and if South Africa win the match, they have a higher chance of going to the next round of the competition.
