The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of engaging in what it described as importation of thugs into some parts of the state ahead of the August governorship election.

It also said the hip-hop musician, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, who incidentally is the nephew of the governor, is the arrowhead of the importation of thugs into Osogbo, Ilesa, Ile Ife, Iwo, Okuku, among other towns in the state.

The APC disclosed these in a statement by its campaign council on Sunday, May 24, urging various security agencies in the state and the National Security Adviser to act before it is too late.

According to the party, it has received intelligence reports indicating that the government has mobilised thugs and criminal elements from outside the state into the towns with the sole aim of causing tension, strife and coordinated attacks on members of the party as well as supporters and sympathisers of its candidate in the August election, Bola Oyebamiji.

“It was further learnt from reliable authorities that the popular musician and nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mr David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is part of the clandestine and dangerous plot to destabilise Osun State in a desperate attempt to force his ineffective and underperforming uncle on the people of the state for a second term.

“We wish to clearly state that Davido should concentrate on his music career rather than making himself an agent of destruction and electoral manipulation. While he is constitutionally entitled to support and campaign for the re-election of his uncle, such political activities must strictly be carried out within the ambit of the law and democratic decency,” the party said in the statement.

The APC urged the administration not to spill the blood of innocent citizens in its bid to sustain itself in power, adding that the state must not be turned into a theatre of violence because of political desperation and selfish ambition.

“The people of Osun State have not forgotten the ugly experiences of 2022 and 2023 during which over 30 members of the APC were gruesomely murdered in politically-motivated attacks aimed at paving the way for elections involving Senator Ademola Adeleke and candidates of his party. Such dark days must never be allowed to repeat themselves in our dear state,” it added.

The party therefore called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and all relevant security agencies to immediately beam their searchlight on Davido and the state government in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order in various parts of the state while also calling on the National Security Adviser to urgently call Governor Adeleke to order before the situation degenerates beyond control.
