Osun gov asks workers to close 2pm Mon-Thur, 1pm on Friday during Ramadan, Lent

Osun State governor, Senator Nurudeen Adeleke, on Thursday, February 19, reduced the working hours of workers in the state during the current Ramadan and Lenten season.

He said they should henceforth close for work at 2:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 1:00 p.m on Friday, adding that the move, which took effect from Thursday, February 19, was aimed at supporting workers during the fasting season.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the decision of the governor is also part of what he described as a “welfare package” for the workers.

The statement reads: “As part of the welfare packages of the state government for its workforce, the Executive Governor has approved that public servants should close work by 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten seasons only.

“This gesture of the governor is to enable public servants to have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquility in the state to continue unhindered, moreso that the gubernatorial election is holding in the state this year.

“However, those on essential services, especially medical personnel, are excluded from this arrangement in view of the life-saving nature of their duties.”

“Accordingly, all political office-holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies and local government areas as well as local council development authorities are requested to comply and give the contents of this circular wide publicity among their staff.”
