The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally received a resolution by the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that suspended four members of the executive of the party.
Those suspended are the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; the National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade and his deputy, Okechukwu Osuoha.
The four men were suspended during the 608th emergency meeting held on Saturday, November 1, for what the party leadership described as “anti-party activities.”
A few hours after they were suspended, the four officers, led by Anyanwu, held a counter meeting, announcing the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and other executive members of the party.
However, the NWC of the party, in a letter of the resolution addressed to the INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and signed by 14 officials of the party, said the four officers have been suspended for one month.
“The above-named national officers are consequently suspended for a period of one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action. During the period of the suspension, the affected officers cease to function in their respective capacities,” the letter read.
