The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday, October 16, narrated how a 49-year-old man procured abortion for a 14-year-old girl after he allegedly impregnated her.
The command announced this after the man was arrested, saying the girl is currently undergoing medical examination after the failed abortion.
It was gathered that the 49-year-old man, whose name was given as Lamidi Azeez of Eegun area of Ogbagi-Akoko, lured the girl into his apartment and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her “many times.”
This was said to have eventually led to pregnancy and on seeing that the teenager was pregnant, the man was said to have brought some drugs for her to terminate the pregnancy.
The long arm of the law caught up with the man when the girl’s father reported at the Ogbagi-Akoko Divisional Headquarters of the command after he saw her bleeding from her private part.
The police were said to have raced to the father’s house, rushed the girl to the nearest hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed that she had undergone a drug-induced abortion.
When questioned, the girl was said to have fingered the man, saying he has had carnal knowledge of her repeatedly, adding that when he found out that she was pregnant, he gave her drugs to abort the pregnancy.
The police operatives thereafter went to the man’s house and arrested him. He was said to have given more useful information in custody about his dastardly act.
The girl has been referred to the State Specialist Hospital, Igbatoro, for a more comprehensive medical care.
